Organization and Management Theory OMT

In this doctoral webinar, Professor Robert Chia will explore the nature and tradition of academic scholarship and how we can go beyond simply doing pragmatic research and instead consider how we might learn to produce novel theoretical insights that can genuinely benefit the practitioner world and society at large. This way, scholarly research can be simultaneously rigorous and relevant beyond the confines of academia. 

Time: Thursday, 8th of October at 10.00 (Eastern) / 15.00 (London) / 19.30 (Delhi) and last for about 1 1/2 hours. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.

We encourage participants to read any (or all) of the following papers before the session:

About the speaker:

Robert Chia (Robert.Chia@glasgow.ac.uk) is Research Professor of Management at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow. He received his PhD in Organizational Analysis from the University of Lancaster. He is the author/editor of five books including Strategy without Design (Cambridge University Press, with R. Holt) and has published in the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Organization Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Human Relations, British Journal of Management and Long Range Planning amongst many other international journals. His research is fundamentally underpinned by a process-philosophical worldview which is used to interrogate research issues such as strategic thinking and strategy-making;, peripheral awareness, foresight and organizational leadership; decisions and unintended consequences; the educational role of university business schools; and the significance of contrasting East-West mentalities and their implications for business practice. Prior to entering academia Robert worked for seventeen years in shipbuilding, aircraft engineering and held senior management positions in manufacturing and human resources for a large multinational corporation based in Singapore.
