Please Join Us for PDW #11943: Topic Modeling Advances - Curating Corpora, Using Structured Models, and Theorizing with Visuals We are excited to announce that our follow-on Professional Development Workshop (PDW) on topic modeling and rendering (which builds on our 2017 & 2018 topic modeling PDWs), will be offered in "real-time" mode at the upcoming Academy of Management Meetings.
This "Topic Modeling Advances" workshop will focus on building theory with visual artifacts created from topic modeling methods. Practices of visualization are important in both the doing and understanding of big data analytics. In our view of an interpretive approach to rendering data, models and theory in social science, visual artifacts are boundary objects that are central in the process. This PDW will be interactive; with brief method- and theory-building statements, then specific exercises for these in breakout sessions with participants. The groups will actively engage in generating novel theorizations based on pre-rendered visualizations. While a repository of code (in R/Python) and relevant material will be shared with all registered participants, this PDW will not require previous experience in programming languages. Although some of the discussions will reflect advanced computational techniques, the focus here is on the practices of employing them.
Confirmed speakers and facilitators:
