    Brown University is seeking an accomplished scholar who studies organizations (broadly defined) to join the Department of Sociology and provide leadership as Department Chair. The faculty member will hold the CV Starr Professorship. The position start date is negotiable.

    The Department of Sociology has a vibrant and successful PhD program, a Master's program in Social Analysis and Research, and undergraduate concentrations in Sociology, in Organizational Studies, and in Social Analysis and Research. The department has strong ties and/or joint faculty appointments with the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, the Institute at Brown for Environment & Society, the Population Studies & Training Center, the Taubman Center for Public Policy, the initiative on Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences (S4), and the Program in Urban Studies. Sociology faculty also hold leadership roles in the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship, the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice, the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America, the Center for Latin and Carribean Studies, and the Graduate Program in Development. In addition, the Department collaborates with and contributes to many of Brown's research and educational hubs, including the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University, the Data Science Initiative, the Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women, and Brown's School of Public Health.

    Qualifications

    A successful candidate must be a sociologist at the advanced associate- or full-professor level with an outstanding record of scholarly achievement, an active research agenda, a proven record of academic leadership, excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work contributes to the larger discipline of sociology.
