The 1st HEC Paris-Rice Conference on the Organizational Underworld

We invite original academic research papers-both theoretical and empirical, using qualitative and quantitative methods-for consideration at the inaugural HEC Paris-Conference on the Organizational Underworld. This focused academic forum will take place between June 30 and July 2, 2025, at the Rice University Global Paris Center, located in the Marais, in the heart of Paris.

We welcome submissions across a wide range of theoretical and empirical perspectives on the organizational underworld, including:

    ●      Organizational misconduct and corruption

    ●      White-collar crime and whistleblowing

    ●      Corporate and institutional fraud

    ●      Scandals within and across organizations

    ●      Organizational stigma and stigma management

    ●      Criminal organizations and the informal economy

    ●      Formal and informal social control

    ●      Industry and field-level self-regulation efforts

A select number of papers will be chosen for expanded presentation and featured discussion during the conference. We seek to explore assumptions and blind spots, catalyze novel research directions, and develop ethical frameworks and policy guidelines to responsibly and productively drive this domain of management scholarship.

Submission information: Submit your abstract here.

    Submission Deadline: February 28th, 2025.

Acceptance Notification: by March 31st, 2025.

Submission Requirement: 5-page abstract, plus up to two pages for references, in Microsoft Word format.

Presentation Requirement: Authors will be required to submit a full manuscript by May 31 so that the discussant has ample time to provide comments.

Important information: Admission to the conference is free of charge, and all meals will be generously provided by Rice University and HEC Paris. However, invited attendees are kindly requested to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.
