Curious to learn more about how organizations actively craft and use their histories in different ways? Please come and join us for a presenter symposium "Facts, Fiction, or Something in Between: The Constructive and Destructive Power of History Work"! On Saturday 5:00PM–6:30PM PT @The Westin Seattle in Cascade I-B.

In this symposium, we gather four presentations that explore different aspects of history work. They not only discuss the various forms and types of history work that might either authentically use or potentially misuse history, but also explore how the performance of history work is shaped by the power dynamics between competing actors, who adopt history work for different purposes.

    Presenters:
    – Tina Dacin (Queen's University): "Maintaining Craft: Knowledge Transfer, Collective Custodianship, and History Work"
    – Majken Schultz (Copenhagen Business School): "Episodic Continuity as History Work in Organization Change"
    – Milo Wang (Arizona State University): "History Work in History Books: How the History Is Strategically Reconstructed"
    – David Kirsch (University of Maryland): "Historical Drift: When the Present Becomes Unmoored from the Past"

    Discussants:
    – Eero Vaara (Oxford University)
    – Harry Liebersohn (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign)

We hope to see you there!
