Job description
This project is part of a grant of the Foundation for Auditing Research (http://www.foundationforauditingresearch.org) awarded to Dr Reggy Hooghiemstra, Prof Dr Floor Rink and Dr Dennis Veltrop.
A prevalent feature of contemporary work is that employees have to work in multiple teams simultaneously. It is yet unknown, however, whether such multiple team memberships determine individual and collective outcomes, and if so, in what ways exactly. Working in multiple teams can be demanding as it implies that employees continuously have to switch between teams. At the same time, however, multiple team memberships can also be rewarding as it may provide learning opportunities, and motivates employees to adopt efficient work strategies. This PhD project will therefore examine whether the impact of multiple team memberships on employees' individual performance as well as team performance hinges on key environmental and individual factors (e.g., team climates, individual goal setting strategies). The PhD project thus directly feeds into current scientific and practical discussions about workload, network utilization and, ultimately, about the performance of organizations.
While not ruling out other research methods, the project will largely make use of survey research and archival data. The Foundation for Auditing Research has secured access to all major audit firms in The Netherlands (e.g. PWC, EY, KPMG, Deloitte etc.) and will help with data collections.
The PhD project will be part of the FEB research programmes on Organizational Behaviour (http://www.rug.nl/research/hrm-ob/) and Innovation and Organization http://www.rug.nl/research/io/, and will be embedded within the signature area on "Board Effectiveness". Within this signature area, researchers from different disciplines within the Faculty (i.e., Economics and Finance, Management, Accounting and Organizational Behaviour) conduct joint research on the conditions that will make management boards effective, both at the micro- and macro-economic level.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with a master degree – preferably a research master – in business, social science (psychology, sociology) or economics, with substantial knowledge of quantitative research methods, and who has affinity with organizational behaviour and/or personnel psychology. Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a gross monthly starting salary of € 2,191, which increases yearly to a maximum of € 2,801. In addition we offer a 8% holiday allowance and a 8.3% end of year bonus.
