    Dear AoM members,

You are cordially invited to attend a symposium "Alliance Network Advantage: At the Frontiers of Research and Teaching"

    Organizer: Andrew Shipilov (INSEAD)

    Participants:

    Yves Doz, Henrich Greve (INSEAD)

Ranjay Gulati, Pavel Zhelyazkov (Harvard Business School)

    Dovev Lavie (Technion)

Tim Rowley (Rotman School of Management)

    Division sponsors: BPS, OMT

    Tuesday, Aug 5 2014

8:00AM - 9:30AM at Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel in Independence B

Ranjay Gulati and Pavel Zhelyazkov will talk about the impact of a firm's dissolving alliance ties on its ability firm to form new ties in the future. Their research shows that past partners sanction firms' alliance withdrawal decisions: a firm's withdrawal from an alliance reduces the probability of this firm's forming new ties with the partners who belonged to that alliance.

Dovev Lavie will discuss his research program that examines how firms learn from their alliance portfolio experiences, and especially on the role of dedicated alliance function for extracting value from alliances.

Yves Doz will present his analysis of the specific skills alliance managers need to develop. These skills require both cognitive and behavioral competencies from the alliance executives. He will reflect on the pedagogical approaches needed to teach these competencies.

Andrew Shipilov will present co-authored book "Network Advantage: How to Unlock Value from Your Alliances and Partnerships" with Henrich Greve and Tim Rowley. This book should help you teach the basic concepts of alliance formation, alliance portfolios and organizational status to MBAs, EMBAs and business executives.

    See you in Philly!
