Dear colleagues, I apologize for cross posting.

Interdisciplinary PhD position in Management Engineering and Information Engineering, Politecnico di Milano

The Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in cooperation with the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering (POLIMI, Italy) is currently seeking applicants for one full-time PhD scholarship (3 years), starting from November 2018, on the following research project:

"ASSESSING GENDER BIASES THROUGH DATA ANALYTIC IN

    ENTREPRENEURIAL AND ORGANIZATION CONTEXTS"

We are looking for a talented and motivated candidate with strong analytical and methodological skills in social sciences (qualitative and quantitative), who is eager to engage in an interdisciplinary and international research project of relevance for both industry and academia. The eligible candidate for this scholarship is both an Italian and a non-Italian citizen.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, office facilities, access to library, software and databases. Candidates are offered their own research budget for travelling and they receive additional funds for study periods in top foreign universities. Opportunities of teaching and tutoring BSc/MSc students are also foreseen during the PhD.

The Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering at POLIMI has a strong commitment to the excellence, distinctiveness and relevance of its teaching and research activities. The Doctoral Program is highly international and POLIMI PhD graduates are held in high esteem - not only in academia - but also in public institutions and companies where their research qualifications are increasingly demanded. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT

The joint research will focus on analyzing the existing gender-related literature to devise indicators of the different aspects of gender biases that can be ascribed either to body-language expressions or to language-based characteristics, and to turn them into quantitative features that can be extracted automatically. Based on the main characteristics of such features, appropriate data analytics techniques will be considered, based on image processing and natural language processing, which allow the analysis of large quantities of data sets to construct the first sort of ontology of gender-bias research. Such a knowledge base will be indexed according to its peculiar features, to investigate possible, yet unseen correlations among different contexts, and to mine hidden patterns, which may help to explain the core roots of this behaviour. To approach this problem in truly innovative way as the one proposed herein, different competences are needed, which must merge data analysis, system identification, knowledge of the nature of the interactions in entrepreneurial, managerial and scientific organizations.

    APPLICATION

Applicants are requested to apply through the POLIMI online application at the following page: https://goo.gl/mScPTr

The accompanying instructions of the online call will answer many of your questions on eligibility criteria and application process.
