I am organizing an AOM symposium with Dr. Prasad Balkundi on the topic of crosscutting ties / external ties. We are currently having three papers and one discussant, and we are seeking two more papers that fit in this area.
As to the definition of crosscutting / external ties, it refers to network ties that cross boundaries of formally structural groups, such as teams, departments or firms, or cross boundaries of social groups, such as age, racial, gender or functional groups.
As to the operationalization of crosscutting / external ties, you can examine it as the number of ties, strength of ties, or network diversity/range.
For the symposium, I envision papers that examine crosscutting / external ties at individual-, group- or firm-levels. Your paper could be about antecedents, consequences, mechanisms, or boundary conditions of crosscutting /external ties.
If you have a working paper in this area, please submit your abstract to me (ningxu@buffalo.edu) by Nov 30, 2016. We will select two papers that best fit the symposium focus by Dec 2, 2016.
Thank you in advance!
Best,
Ning Xu
