Invitation to OMT Doctoral Student and Junior Faculty Research

Development Workshop – "Communicating Your Research"

OFEL Conference, Dubrovnik, April 5-6, 2019

    Dear fellow scholars,

We are glad to announce the call for the Doctoral Student and Junior Faculty Research Development Workshop organized in collaboration with the Organization and Management Theory (OMT) Division of the Academy of Management, and hosted by the OFEL conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on April 5th and April 6th 2019.

The workshop will be led by Professor Davide Ravasi (UCL School of Management, University College London), OMT Division Chair, former Associate Editor of the Journal of Management Studies and member of the editorial board of the Academy of Management Journal, Professor Modupe Akinola (Columbia Business School, Columbia University), member of the editorial board of International Journal of Stress Management, and Professor Martin Kilduff (UCL School of Management, University College London), former editor of Academy of Management Review, associate editor of Administrative Science Quarterly, and the PDW Chair for the OMT division.

Doctoral students and junior faculty at all levels are encouraged to participate, especially if they are in the process of submitting, or are planning to submit a paper to an academic journal. The main objectives of the workshop are to strengthen participants' capacity to effectively "communicate" their research by  adequately structuring and writing papers for highly ranked academic journals. The workshop will contain sessions on:

    ·       Choosing your audience (targeting the right journal for your research)

    ·       Writing and structuring an effective introduction

    ·       Writing and structuring an effective discussion

The speakers will illustrate, discuss and give advice for each of these steps, explain their importance in the review and editorial process in top academic journals, and share their experience – as authors, reviewers, and editors – in "communicating" and publishing research in these journals.

In addition to the lectures by scholars, there will be roundtable discussions in which participants will get feedback from workshop lecturers and other participants on the introduction of the papers that they would like to submit to a specific journal.

In order to apply for the workshop, applicants should send us their CV and a short motivation letter explaining why they would like to attend this workshop. Participants that would like to get feedback on their introduction, should attach an abstract and an introduction (max 5 pages, double spaced, font 12) with their application, along with a note to which journal they would like to submit their paper.

We receive applications for the workshop until the 20th of January, 2019. The attendance at the workshop is free of charge. If you are in need of financial assistance for participating in the workshop, please send an additional letter to apply for partial funding. We will hopefully be in a position to offer partial stipends to participants whose institutions do not provide support for such programs.

All participants will be offered lunch and light refreshments throughout the day. The conference also includes extracurricular activities like a gala dinner, the closing ceremony, and trips to explore the beauties of the city of Dubrovnik and its region, which you can take part in for a small fee.

The workshop will be held at the University of Dubrovnik, Department of Economics and Business Economics (address: Lapadska obala 7, 20000 Dubrovnik, Croatia).
