Faculty Position in Organization Studies at Vanderbilt University
The Organization Studies area at Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management seeks applicants for a tenure‐track faculty appointment. This search is focused on pre‐tenure candidates who are at least a couple of years past their Ph.D. Applicants should have an active and engaging research agenda, with a track record of publications in prestigious outlets. On the teaching side we seek candidates with the ability to teach MBA‐level courses effectively. Although we are open to candidates with research and teaching interests in any aspect of organization studies (OB vs. OT vs HR; micro vs. macro), some engagement with HR in teaching and/or research is desirable. We prefer candidates with flexible teaching interests.
The Organization Studies area (encompassing HR, OB, and OT) is comprised of faculty with diverse interests spanning topics, methods, and levels of analysis. Faculty members in the area publish in and hold important editorial roles in highly regarded journals, and have served in leadership roles in key professional associations. The Owen School offers a daytime MBA with approximately 360 full‐time students, an Executive MBA program, and masters programs in finance, accounting, and health care management. Vanderbilt is strongly committed to interdisciplinary enterprises, and the Owen School faculty cultivates teaching and research connections with the College of Arts and Science as well as the schools of Medicine, Law, Engineering, and other divisions of the university.
The Owen School (owen.vanderbilt.edu) occupies Management Hall, a spacious, modern, multilevel building containing classrooms, seminar rooms, offices, lounges, and the Walker Management Library. Vanderbilt (vanderbilt.edu), ranked among the nation's leading research universities, has more than 3,000 full‐time faculty members and approximately 12,000 students. Its park‐like 330‐acre campus is ideally situated just five minutes from downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1873, the university consists of ten schools and a distinguished academic medical center. Vanderbilt offers undergraduate programs in the liberal arts and sciences, engineering, music, and education and human development, as well as a full range of graduate and professional degrees.
Nashville is a growing metropolitan area with a population of more than 1.5 million people. The capital of Tennessee, Nashville is known for its creative industries (music, video, recording), as well as for healthcare, publishing, insurance and finance, and education. The city has more than a dozen colleges and universities and features many cultural and recreational amenities including a symphony orchestra, repertory theater, professional sports (NFL football, NHL hockey, and Triple‐A baseball), a vast system of parks, and more first‐ rate live music than one can possibly consume. With its mild climate, natural beauty, cosmopolitan cultural offerings, and moderate cost of living, Nashville is an appealing place to live, work, and play.
As stated above, we prefer candidates who are at least a couple of years post‐Ph.D. Candidates with less experience will be considered only with a record that includes first‐tier journal publications and evidence of successful graduate‐level teaching experience.
After the Academy meeting, apply by sending electronic versions of a cover letter, c.v., three letters of recommendation, evidence of teaching ability, and other supporting materials by September 30, 2013 to OrgStudiesSearch@owen.vanderbilt.edu. Provide all materials as PDF or Word files.
