It comprises twelve faculties and has teaching facilities for 25.000 students. The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) is one of the larger faculties of the VU University. Over 2700 students and more than 300 employees are engaged in teaching and research on social science issues. The faculty has 5 bachelor- and 7 master programs, which are characterized by their broad and often multidisciplinary character. The department of Organization Sciences focuses on the processes and phenomena that result in effective and efficient functioning of organizations. Among the topics studied are strategy, networks, entrepreneurship, innovation, university-industry cooperation and valorization of research (results).
Tasks As an assistant professor you teach in the broad area of the organization sciences within an emphasis on social networks as well as strategy and entrepreneurship. The teaching takes place in the bachelor Policy and Organization (Bestuur en Organisatie), and the masters Culture, Organization & Management, and Policy, Communication & Organization (Beleid, Communicatie en Organisatie). All these programs contain courses in English. Your research will be part of the OPOS program, which consists of four research clusters: networks; organizational change; international organization and global change; institutions and identity. Cooperation in research takes place in the Network Institute at the VU. The research in this position takes place in the cluster Networks and should contribute to social networks, organizational collaboration and/or entrepreneurship.
Requirements • PhD in organization science in the broad field of social sciences or a management or business school; • Research fitting the field of teaching and research of the department; • Experience in the development and teaching of academic courses; • Publications in international refereed journals; • Basic qualification in teaching as demanded by Dutch universities (BKO) or willingness to acquire this; • Willingness to learn Dutch for teaching purposes.
Further particulars The initial appointment will be for 2 years. After satisfactory evaluation of the initial appointment, it can be extended. The starting date is preferable the 15th of August 2014 and no later than September 2014. Salary The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel and depending on experience, range from a minimum of € 3037,00 gross per month (salary scale 10.5) up to a maximum € 4462,00 gross per month (salary scale 11) based on a full-time emploment.
