Individual participants will arrive at the professional development workshop (PDW) with an interest in the habitus concept and preliminary ideas for research projects in a variety of different substantive domains. Participants will leave the PDW with an increased understanding of the habitus-based perspective, its theoretical dimensions, methodological tools and limits, and finally, better-developed research questions and ideas for empirical operationalizations of the habitus concept. Participants will constitute a network of people having similar interests and gain the opportunity to be mentored by colleagues with a deep understanding of the habitus concept. The expected outcome of this PDW is to increase standards for scholarship in research using habitus, to create a community of scholars who are interested in the habitus concept and to encourage research projects by demonstrating the concept's theoretical and empirical potential.
