    Apologies for cross-posting

    Dear All,

Please take a note of our AOM PDW titled "Experiments in Institutional Theory and Strategy Research". Following up on two successful Academy of Management symposia in 2012 and 2013, this year we decided to expand both scale and scope of the event and organize PDWs on experimental research both at the Academy in Philadelphia and at EGOS in Rotterdam.

Below is some information about the AOM PDW. Please note that we are currently accepting work-in-progress paper submissions for the second part of this workshop, where the facilitators (see the list below) will provide you in-depth feedback on your projects.

AOM PDW "Experiments in Institutional Theory and Strategy Research"

Recent developments in research on organizations emphasize the important role that micro-level processes play in determining macro-level organizational outcomes. As a result, there is a growing interest in experimental research methods in both institutional theory and strategy research. This workshop provides the opportunity for researchers interested in experimental research on institutional theory and strategy to engage in dialogue, learn about state-of-the-art approaches, and receive feedback on their ongoing work. Specifically, the workshop consists of two segments:

    (1) The first segment starts with a panel discussion, in which leading scholars present their views on the following two key questions: What may experimental research contribute to the current knowledge of institutional and strategic processes in organizations? What are some of the key challenges involved in applying experiments to investigate these topics? The discussion will then be broadened to address other questions brought up by the audience. Directly after the panel discussion, the PDW features a showcase research presentation titled "Institutional Theory and Organizational DecisionMaking: Varieties of Conformity" by Pamela Tolbert, Verena Krause, and Rachel Ruttan. The presentation offers a window into one possible approach to experimental institutional inquiry. The presenters share their learnings on effects of internal and external conformity influences on organizational decision-making.

    (2) After a short break, the second segment of the program consists of a paper development workshop. Here, the facilitators provide in-depth feedback on work-in-progress research submitted in advance by workshop participants. Similar papers will be clustered together (based on topic) and will be discussed in small groups. Papers should be related to the workshop theme and can be in various developmental stages; both proposals and full manuscripts will be considered. If you wish to participate in the second segment of the workshop (paper development), please submit your work by email to both alex.bitektine@hec.ca and schilke@ucla.edu no later than July 11, 2014.
In case you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Please also see http://program.aomonline.org/2014/Session_Details.asp?print=true&SubmissionID=11438

    Best wishes,
    Alex and Oliver

P.S. Just FYI, we also organize an EGOS workshop on experimental research in institutional theory, which will take place in Rotterdam on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, 09:00am–2:00pm.
