    Dear Colleague,

We have extended the deadline for applications (now 31 March) to a PhD on football/soccer at the University of Sydney, Australia.

The Johnny Warren Football Foundation has donated $140,000 to create a PhD Scholarship opportunity for a candidate with a passion for 'the beautiful game' and the desire to conduct pivotal research into the key challenges currently facing soccer in Australia.

Despite football's global sporting dominance, its position in this country is delicate. The governance of football in Australia has been fraught with complex and controversial issues such as the role of grass roots development, effective governance, interactions between the Federation and fan bases, gender equity, Indigenous & other minority participation and football's role in Australia's relationships with other nations.

This PhD will provide the successful nominee with the opportunity to explore Australian football's governance and societal impacts under the guidance of Professor Leanne Cutcher and Dr Mattia Anesa of the Business School. Upon completion they may have influenced policy and will be equipped with a qualification that could propel them into sought after roles within sporting bodies, academic or executive roles within sports management.

International/domestic applicants with a strong qualitative research background are welcome. For more info please email me directly.

    Greetings from Down Under,

    Mattia
