The book "Management and the Gospel: Luke's Radical Message for the First and Twenty-First Centuries" (2013, Palgrave) provides a long overdue response called for in Weber's "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism." The book provides a socio-historical analysis of what OMT might have looked like in first century Palestine, and then uses this as a lens to examine what the Gospel of Luke says about OMT. It turns out that Luke refers to over 50 different goods and services producing organizations, and consistently presents counter-cultural teachings regarding the three key first century institutions related to OMT: 1) how to manage relationships within an organization (oikonomia), 2) how to manage money (chrematistics), and 3) how to manage relationships between organizations (patron-client relations). Implications for contemporary theorizing are discussed. For more information about the book, including a sample chapter and book reviews, feel free to visit
