PDW Description: Organizational search is widely used to explain the generation and diffusion novelty. Our most commonly applied theories conceptualize search as a process. For example, A Behavioral Theory of the Firm, Cyert and March's (1963) seminal contribution to organizational theory, conceptualizes search as a process whereby actors seek to discover alternative ways of meeting performance goals. Organizational scholars have typically conducted research that tell us little about the process of search, what goes on between when one decides to initiate a search and when one decides to terminate it. This trend is beginning to change and our PDW aims to strengthen it by stimulating early stage research that unpacks the process of organizational search and, in doing so, helps improve our understanding of organizational life. The session will begin with an overview of where the field is going and why. We then break up into roundtable discussions. Experts in the field will lead each table, facilitating developmental reviews and encouraging the group to work collaboratively to strengthen each other's projects. The workshop will conclude with the organizers facilitating a general discussion of issues surfaced and the road ahead.
The goal of this PDW is to develop a community of scholars pursuing research on organizational search processes. Please note that the submission deadline for proposals is July 15th 2014. Please submit your proposal to t.grohsjean@lmu.de.
If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact one of the organizers.
Best wishes,
Sam, Amit, Nils and Thorsten
