Advanced Series in Management: Series Editor Vacancy
A position has become available for the Series Editorship of Advanced Series in Management. This position can be held by one person, or a small group of people acting as a team.

    About the Series

The Advanced Series in Management (ASM) publishes volumes that develop new conceptual foundations for management theory, and advances new management theory that has clear, direct usefulness for the practice of management. It counters the trend towards increasing fragmentation in management theory and research by developing a new theory base for management that is interconnected and integrative.

Prior volumes in ASM have: introduced the competence-based approach to strategy and management theory and practice; defined a new taxonomy of organizational types and change pathways; elaborated the nature and functioning of virtual organizations; explored the relevance of complexity theory for management theory and practice; developed a systems perspective on firm resources, capabilities, and management processes; and presented an autopoietic theory of firm formation and evolution. Future volumes would be expected to continue this trend of topical, insightful and innovative research into management theory.

Emerald has been the Publisher of the series since 2008, which was owned by Elsevier prior to this date. There is considerable scope to develop the series' aims and coverage, and to improve the regularity of the series.

The Role of a Series Editor

The main requirement is a proactive approach to editorial responsibilities. Requirements can be split into two main areas:

    ·         Responsibility at editorial level: these include more project orientated tasks, such as maintaining a pipeline of volumes, appointing volume editors, assisting contributors when necessary, and preparing manuscripts to a high standard

    ·         Responsibility at subject level; which includes monitoring developments in a particular subject field, ensuring the Series is known and promoted to the subject community, and commissioning new volumes where needed

A Series Editor is the figurehead of a book series. They decide on the coverage and scope of the series, and will often be preparing two to three years ahead regarding topicality. Volumes within the book series can be themed individually, and can be a monograph piece by one or two authors, or an edited collection of chapters by various authors. Every volume will have one or more volume editors, who are appointed by the Series Editor, and are often responsible for one volume only. There is more information on the role of a Series Editor at http://info.emeraldinsight.com/products/books/authors/series_profile.htm

A shortlist of the qualities we are looking for in a new Editor for the series follows:

    ·         You will be willing to chase up volume editors and authors when necessary and demand the highest standards in review and revision

    ·         You will be able to compromise when needs be between quality and timeliness

    ·         You will be in a well respected school for the subject

    ·         Ideally you will have reached Professor status

    ·         You will have an international network of contacts

    ·         You will have links to international associations or conferences

    ·         You will have acted as a reviewer before and be (or have been) a member of an Editorial Board (for books or journals)

    ·         Ideally you will have held an Editorial position on a journal or book series before

    ·         You can provide at least one reference from an Editor or Publisher with whom you have worked before, either as a reviewer, editorial board member, or Guest Editor

If you think you fulfil this list of requirements and are interested in the opportunity, please send me an email at your earliest convenience. You can find more information on the series at http://www.emeraldinsight.com/products/books/series.htm?id=1877-6361 . If you know someone who may be interested in this opportunity please feel free to send on. This call will remain open until 18th March 2011.

Please come back to me with any questions.
