    About the Association:

    VIDA

The Critical Management Studies Women's Association

VIDA is a networked organisation dedicated to challenging patriarchal practices in academic institutions and in the re-production of knowledge tout court. Our intent is to facilitate debate on the key aspects of women's experiences in academia and how we might collectively take responsibility for changing the ways in which women scholars are silenced and marginalised.

Women make up a large proportion of junior faculty and PhD researchers; however, their progression to Professorships is difficult and visibly a rare achievement. Women within the Business School often fall prey to the prejudices associated with their gender, are more easily targets of bullying and sexual harassment, are oftentimes swamped with large administrative and teaching loads, and are rarely naturally included in formal and informal decision-making fora. More than this, the masculinist tenor of academic writing and debate in critical management studies especially can be regarded as a particular challenge for female scholars.

To VIDA, the time seems ripe for a collective and concerted discussion of gender relations in the critical management academy. Our organization therefore asks women from within the academy to challenge such orthodoxies and discriminatory behaviour. We seek to instigate change through a number of interventions (in the form of seminars, workshops and lectures at prominent conferences), a mentoring programme for young women academics and by publishing reports, journal articles and books.
