    Management and Human Resources Department

    Wisconsin School of Business

    University of Wisconsin-Madison

The Management and Human Resources (MHR) Department in the Wisconsin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is recruiting at the assistant, associate, and/or full professor level for a entrepreneurship/technology position for Fall 2009. Salary and benefits for the position are competitive and based on applicant qualifications and experience.

Entrepreneurship/technology applicants:  The position requires the potential (among assistant professor candidates) or the demonstrated ability (among associate and full professor candidates) to generate research in top-tier management/social science journals with relevance to entrepreneurship and technology management/policy and be an intellectual leader in this area.  In addition, demonstrated teaching effectiveness is required, and candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. courses, sometimes including students from across the campus. Candidates must have an active interest in participating in Wisconsin's cross-campus Initiative for Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship (INSITE). Candidates should have a Ph.D. (by August 2009).

Current tenure track members of the MHR Department include Ray Aldag, Mason Carpenter, Cynthia Devers, Randy Dunham, Jonathan Eckhardt, Barry Gerhart, Larry Hunter, Anne Miner, Alex Stajkovic, Ann Terlaak, Charlie Trevor, and Mary Triana. The MHR faculty maintains strong links at the graduate level with faculty and students in Sociology, Law, Economics, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Engineering Medicine, and Psychology. The faculty also maintains programmatic connections with entrepreneurship programs in the Arts, undergraduate residential entrepreneurship programs, the M.S. in Biotechnology program and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation that handles technology transfer for UW-Madison.

The Wisconsin School of Business recently received a unique "naming" gift from a group of dedicated alumni. This gift, totaling $85 million, will help enhance faculty recruiting, retention, and facilitate the success of a world-class faculty. The School is housed in Grainger Hall, a $40+ million state-of-the-art facility and an addition to Grainger Hall will open in Fall of '08. The Fluno Center, a $28-million Executive Education Facility, opened in Spring 2000 and permits the offering of a range of executive-level programs.

The University of Wisconsin is a world-class institution, and many departments with which Wisconsin Business School faculty interact, including Sociology and Economics, are ranked among the top in their areas. Recent national rankings have placed UW-Madison in the top 3 for number of doctorates conferred, total research expenditures, and academic reputation among public universities. UW tied for first in number of CEO alumni running S&P 500 companies, and has been first in Peace Corps volunteers.

The campus has a long tradition of supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. The MHR department co-sponsors INSITE (Initiative for Studies in  Technology Entrepreneurship), which promotes research and education across campus, including new course development, international research linkages and campus-wide competitions. The department offers undergraduate, MBA and PhD entrepreneurship programs, and the nationally recognized Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship is a key hub of activity. UW is home to WARF, the oldest technology transfer office in the United States, and is expanding its successful research park and incubator activities.

Madison is a beautiful city on the isthmus between Lakes Mendota and Monona, and the popular business press consistently ranks it among the best places to live in America. It has been named one of the best cities for outdoor enthusiasts and in which to raise children. It has outstanding health care, schools, and recreational opportunities. The Overture Center, a $200+ million complex near campus, provides a variety of exciting cultural and entertainment options along with independent theaters, including the open-air American Players Theatre in nearby Spring Green.
