On making a career in the field of organization science: concluding the debate
Since the publication of the invited essay "Making a life in the field of
organization science" by Glick, Miller , and Cardinal in October 2007 there has
been ongoing debate concerning the vagaries or otherwise of a career in our
disciplines. The latest issue of JOB concludes this debate with the publication
of six further papers.
The first articles in the follow-up series to Glick et.al.'s original paper
comprised the three commentaries published along with the Glick essay (by
Pfeffer, Rousseau, and Sitkin). Subsequently, Hollenbeck and Mannor penned a
reply critical of the method Glick and his colleagues used to draw their
conclusions.
In the present issue of JOB, the series continues with a reply to Hollenbeck and
Mannor by Glick, Miller, and Cardinal followed by a closing retort by Hollenbeck
and Mannor . The series concludes with a point-counterpoint debate, edited by
Paul Spector, and also presented in the latest issue.
We are delighted to announce that the full series is now freely available online
until the end of September, regardless of whether you or your institution has a
subscription. Visit links below to go to the abstract pages. From there, click
