In the midst of catastrophic institutional failure in world-wide
financial-, real estate-, and manufacturing-based markets—the study of
institutional dysfunction and change is more salient than ever. A focus
on the dynamics of institutional logics may yield important insights
into such important contemporary socio-economic issues. The objective of
this workshop on the institutional logics perspective as theory and
method of analysis is to assist scholars in the development of their
research ideas. Institutional logic is a core concept in sociological
and organization theory pertaining to the micro-macro linkages between
the cognition and behavior of actors and wider belief systems in society.
Workshop organizers and facilitators will highlight the growth and
consolidation of theory and methods in the institutional logics
perspective. Second, the aim is to help scholars develop their research
ideas for publication in leading management and social science journals.
Third, the goal is to foster leadership and community among Ph.D.
students, junior faculty, and established scholars with a track record
of publications in the institutional logics perspective. We aim to
facilitate the development of theory and methods, sets of collaborators,
and generation of new research in the institutional logics perspective
with applications to pressing problems in management and society.
Participants will be engaged in general session tutorials including
discussion among the organizers, facilitators, and provocateurs as well
as work in smaller group creative enclaves focused on their research
interests and problems.
