ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS:
CONTEMPORARY LESSONS FROM ERVING GOFFMAN
We are delighted to invite you to a PDW on the work of Erving Goffman, dedicated to exploring avenues for engaging, elaborating, and extending his work in contemporary organizational research. We have invited several eminent scholars, each inspired or influenced by certain aspects of Goffman's work, (a) to discuss one or more of the ways in which Goffman has influenced their thinking and research, and (b) to highlight neglected ideas and possibilities in these areas for interested researchers, which could be opened up by renewed engagement with Goffman's extensive body of work. The PDW will consist of four presentations from our distinguished speakers, followed by an extended panel discussion and Q&A. No papers are required, and attendance is open.
Beyond the reflections of our panelists, and the opportunity to engage in group discussion, we are keen to offer a space for community building for those interested in Goffman, and for those interested in rediscovering and elaborating the insights of past scholarship more broadly. We will thus be organizing an OMT Cafe on the same topic, and would enthusiastically invite PDW attendees to consider joining the cafe as well. We intend this PDW and cafe to be the first of a series, revisiting the work of formative scholars, and we hope it will be of interest to many of you.
