Bill Greene (NYU), Joe Lampel (Cass), Zur Shapira (NYU), Jerker Denrell
(Oxford)are our guest speakers this year. Our program will start with a
general discussion of the notion of rare events and their meaning for
research on strategy and organizations. We will then continue with a brief
survey of some familiar econometric models (e.g., regression, models for
counts and models for binary outcomes) and examine how these models fare in
the presence of rare events. A key issue here is whether we need a new
paradigm, or whether more robust forms of procedures than are already used
will be helpful in this situation. Finally, we will focus on how current
research has addressed specific types of rare events and possible avenues
for future research on the subject.
Note that there is no application or participation fee. Student
participants will be responsible for covering their own long distance
travel expenses to and from Florence, but the Summer School will cover all
accommodation and board expenses during the week of sessions.
