    Hello OMT Community-

Please circulate to any of your students who might be interested in pursuing a PhD...

PhD in Organizations and Social Change at the University of Massachusetts Boston

We are currently inviting applications for the PhD track in Organizations and Social Change, part of the PhD program in Business Administration at the College of Management, University of Massachusetts, Boston. We are seeking outstanding applicants with a broad interest in the role of organizations and the business-society interface. Prospective students with backgrounds in sociology, political science, business, or other relevant areas are encouraged to apply. Most applicants will hold a master's degree, but exceptional students with some prior research experience will be considered. Full scholarships and annual stipends of up to $25,000 are available for admitted students.

The Organizations and Social Change (OSC) track responds to the growing interest in issues at the intersection of business and society, such as climate change, workforce diversity, economic development, governance, inequality, and globalization. Harnessing the resources and techniques of business and entrepreneurship, often in partnership with the public and non-profit sectors, is an important means to generate innovative solutions to these concerns. The interdisciplinary OSC track is distinctive among PhD programs in business schools in its explicit commitment to diverse perspectives, theories, and methodologies.

The College of Management at UMass Boston is dedicated to supporting students' efforts to understand organization and social change in its complexity and in its application to real world issues. We offer a unique blend of academic rigor and practical applications, rooted in organization theory, but also drawing from other disciplines and perspectives, such as political economy, sociology, feminism, and globalization.

A recent $3.1 million award from the National Science Foundation has created specific funding for two students a year for this PhD track for students interested in the intersection of business, policy and science in complex environmental problems such as climate change and coastal risks.

Our current students are already active developing, presenting, and publishing papers – and several have won awards. For a sense of engagement by students and faculty, please see our OSC blog and Facebook page for posts by faculty and students, and information regarding a recent conference in which students were very involved.

The Centers and Institutes at the College of Management engage students and faculty with events and research projects. They include the Center for Sustainable Enterprise and Regional Competitiveness, the Center for Collaborative Leadership, and the Center for Entrepreneurship. Our students also take courses and attend seminars at the wide range of universities in the Boston area, including Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis, Harvard, MIT, Simmons, and Tufts.

Please spread the word about our PhD program!

The application deadline is January 15, 2016.
