UNSW BUSINESS SCHOOL
PAPER DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP ON ORGANIZATIONAL AND INSTITUTIONAL CHANGE
Sponsored by UNSW Business School and the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS)
Additional support from the Organization Development & Change (ODC) Division of the Academy of Management
To be held at UNSW Sydney CBD Campus
June 19, 2019
As part of a global initiative for developmental writing for early career researchers and advanced doctoral students, SAMS, ODC, and UNSW Business School are pleased to announce that a paper development workshop on organisational and institutional change will take place on 19 June, 2019 at UNSW's Sydney CBD Campus.
This workshop is is designed with the specific focus of providing guidance and expertise in the development of writing and ideas, to enhance the potential of both the thesis and its publication possibility. It is explicitly focused on organizational change researchers in developing this community regionally. The idea is part of a global initiative lead by ODC to develop the field and the quality of change research, with other workshops taking place in Edinburgh (lead by John Amis) and in Montreal (led by Linda Rouleau). As with each, this workshop offers an opportunity for scholars to develop their ongoing work related to organisational and/or institutional change. The workshop will be developmental with each paper having as a discussant a senior scholar with a track record of multiple publications in, and editorial/editorial board appointments with our leading journals.
Confirmed discussants will be Richard Hall (Monash), Bill Harley (U.Melbourne), Peter Jordan (Griffith U.), Gavin Schwarz (UNSW), April Wright (UQ), Julie Wolfram Cox (Monash) and Kyoung-Hee Yu (UTS)
Authors will also receive feedback from peers with similar research interests. It should be of special interest for early career colleagues recently graduated with a Ph.D., and doctoral students with well-developed manuscripts; scholars more advanced in their careers are also welcome to attend.
Selection of papers will be based on an abstract of 500 words.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is 11.59pm, 3 May, 2019. Full paper drafts will be required by 7 June, 2019. Please send abstracts and papers to Gavin Schwarz (g.schwarz@unsw.edu.au).
Scholarships
The generous support of each sponsor will allow us to provide a small number of $500 scholarships to help defray expenses for some doctoral students. Successful applicants to the workshop will automatically be considered for a scholarship; no separate application is required.
Logistics and Support to Participants
UNSW Business School is pleased to host and jointly organize this workshop. The workshop will consist of no more than 28 participants who will discuss papers and offer developmental advice. The atmosphere will be collegial and informal but centred on progressing working papers with the objective of getting them published in leading journals. There will also be a plenary session devoted to improving understanding of how to publish in leading journals.
There is no conference fee, and no charge for lunch, coffee breaks and closing reception. Participants must make their own travel arrangements and pay for accommodation - we will provide recommendations of where to stay. Participants are expected to attend for the whole day: registration is 8.30am; formal programme concludes at 5pm with a drinks reception finishing at 6pm. If participants wish to extend their trip to enjoy Sydney, we can help with advice and arrangements.
