We invite you to attend the showcase symposium entitled "Clarifying Organizational Culture: Conceptual Clarifications, Extensions, and Research Directions" to hear insights from several highly distinguished voices who have been instrumental in the development of organizational culture research.  The symposium will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM in the Grand Ballroom Salon A room of the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.

    Panelists include:

Mark Ehrhart (San Diego State University)
Dan Denison (International Institute for Management Development)
Jennifer Chatman (University of California, Berkeley)
    Angelo Kinicki (Arizona State University)
Ed Schein (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) - Discussant

To aid the discussion in clarifying organizational culture, each panelist will address a set of questions.  The panelists' collective focus encompasses the three predominant research streams in culture research: culture content, strength, and fit.

    • Panelist 1 – Mark Ehrhart: How is organizational culture similar to and different from organizational climate?  What insights can be derived from organizational climate research and applied to the organizational culture literature?
    • Panelist 2 – Dan Denison: Are the predominant culture types an adequate representation of culture's thematic content?  How do habits and routines expand our conceptualization of organizational culture?
    • Panelist 3 – Jennifer Chatman: What are the weaknesses of culture strength?  How can the concept of culture strength be 'strengthened'?  What avenues exist for future research investigating culture strength?
    • Panelist 4 – Angelo Kinicki: How does studying configurations help us better understand organizational culture's content and its impact in organizations?  What opportunities and challenges exist in the culture literature to study strategic fit?

After the panelists' presentations, Ed Schein will discuss issues and insights emanating from the content presented as well as potential directions for future research.

We hope to see you there and engage with you in an interesting and thought-provoking discussion to advance organizational culture research!
