On November 29, 2017, Provost Dennis Jacobs announced to the SCU community that Dr. Kirk Hanson, Executive Director of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics (MCAE), had announced his plans to retire this summer and that a search would soon commence for his successor.
Under Kirk's leadership over the past sixteen years, the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics has grown into the largest and most active university-based ethics center in the world. The Center enjoys an excellent international reputation and robust financial health.
