Below is the new posting for a tenure-track position starting Fall 2014. We will conduct interviews at
SMS in Atlanta and encourage early submissions through the on-line Candidate Profile process. Initial
submissions require a CV and cover letter only; candidates who are subsequently selected will be
asked to provide additional materials and letters.

The Management Area of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia is seeking
applications for a full-time tenure track position in strategic management, beginning in August 2014.

The position is open to advanced assistant professors, as well as associate and full professors. Senior
candidates must have an established record of both excellent research and outstanding teaching. For
appointment at the Assistant Professor level, applicants ideally have at least two years of experience
beyond completion of the Ph.D., possess practical business experience, and demonstrate clear
success and potential for a strong record in research and teaching. Particular consideration will be
given to scholars whose research has potential synergies with current McIntire faculty (e.g., strategic
leadership and decision making, corporate governance), and to scholars with experience teaching
global strategy or other international management courses.

Currently, the McIntire School of Commerce (http://www.commerce.virginia.edu) awards a Bachelor of
Science in Commerce, a Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Commerce (Finance and
Marketing/Management) and a Master of Science in the Management of Information Technology.
McIntire is recognized for excellence and innovation in undergraduate and graduate business
education and scholarship. In its 2013 annual ranking of undergraduate business programs,
BloombergBusinessWeek magazine again ranked the McIntire School of Commerce second in the
nation. Consistent with its Jeffersonian heritage, McIntire enjoys a culture of friendly and open
exchange among faculty and between faculty and students.

McIntire serves over 660 undergraduates and 250 graduate students. Undergraduate students enter
the Commerce School in their third year at the University and concentrate in one or more of six fields:
accounting, finance, information technology, management, and/or marketing. A recent New York
Times article identified McIntire’s Integrated Core Experience for third year students as the envy of
other business schools. The major professional services firms (e.g., advertising, accounting,
consulting, and investment banks) and many of the Fortune 500 corporations actively recruit McIntire
graduates. In 2008, McIntire moved into a new 156,000 square foot academic complex on the Lawn in
the heart of UVA’s historic Central Grounds, designed by Thomas Jefferson. Charlottesville is located
in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is rated highly as a desirable location to live.

McIntire faculty members have received numerous regional and national awards for their research.
They also serve as members of editorial review boards and as editors of leading journals in their
fields. Management Area scholars include: Tom Bateman, Carl Zeithaml, Brad Brown, Rob Cross,
Adelaide W. King, Gary Ballinger, Jeremy Marcel, Amanda Cowen, David Lehman, Jennifer Knippen,
Kieran O’Connor, and Ira Harris. Recent publications from this faculty have appeared in Academy of
Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Strategic Management
Journal, Management Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human
Decision Processes, Harvard Business Review, and Sloan Management Review. Examples of leading
    scholars outside the Management Area at McIntire include Bill Wilhelm and David C. Smith, Finance;
David Mick and Rick Netemeyer, Marketing, and Michael Morris and Suprateek Sarker, IT.

Candidate Profile on-line and attach a CV and a cover letter. The University of Virginia is an Equal
    Opportunity/ Affirmative Action employer.
