    Workshop overview:

The aim of this highly interactive workshop is to start unveiling the process of brokerage for external talent and technology. Talent and technology are two key organizational resources, and organizations often engage specialized brokers to help them source these resources, yet we still know little about what such brokers actually do. While literature has traditionally focused on the network aspects of brokerage, recently scholars have started to identify mechanisms that transpire in brokerage in different sourcing contexts. This workshop will bring together scholars interested in brokerage for talent and technology, to jointly explore the underlying mechanisms at play in brokerage for these "hard to evaluate" assets.

We will address so far unanswered questions, such as:

    • What are the stages in brokerage for external talent and what are the stages in brokerage for external technology? Are they similar?
    • What is a broker's role in each of the stages?
    • When does a broker behave opportunistically (as tertius gaudens), as opposed to synergistically (as tertius iungens)?
    • How do the relationships a broker has with the brokered parties affect the outcomes?

    Workshop format:

Participants will address these (and other) questions in small groups. Group discussions will be moderated by renowned scholars from both talent and technology brokerage fields. After group discussions panelists will offer their views and reflections to the entire audience. We will then open the floor for a general discussion.

    Registration:
