Are you engaged in research about the social construction of markets? Have you noticed that there are a lot of people talking about social construction, but it's not always clear what that means or what the common themes are across research on social construction? While it is relatively accepted that markets – including related social structures like market categories – develop through interactions of social actors over time, there is wide variety in the research attempting to help us understand how these processes and market structures emerge and evolve. This variation includes the underlying assumptions and theoretical perspectives, focal actors, empirical contexts, and research methods being employed.  This PDW is an opportunity for scholars interested in processes of social construction to talk across distinct perspectives and learn from each other to identify opportunities for further research.

Four prominent scholars will help to frame the conversation by briefly sharing their particular perspectives on the social construction of markets. This will be followed by Q&A in which you can voice your perspective and ask questions of the presenters as we try to cultivate a conversation about what we collectively know – and what gaps persist in our understanding – about the social construction of the market.

We hope you'll join us Saturday, August 8 from 3-5pm to make this an exciting discussion.
