AOM Symposium
Institutions and People - Emotions, Values, and Identities in the Lived Experience of Institutions
In recent years, scholars have raised concerns that institutional theory has too often overlooked the everyday realities of institutional life-the practices, interactions, emotions, and moral tensions through which institutions are enacted, resisted, sustained, and transformed.
This has sparked growing calls to re-center the lived experience of institutions in our theorizing: to ask not just what institutions are, but how they are felt, how they shape who we become, and how people respond when institutions fail, disappoint, or demand too much.
At AoM 2025, we're bringing together key figures at the forefront of this conversation for an integrative symposium exploring institutions at the intersection of emotions, values, and identities.
We're thrilled to be joined by:
-
April Wright (University of Warwick) on moral emotions and professional values
-
Christopher Steele (University of Alberta) on identity and institutions
-
Maxim Voronov (York University) on emotions and institutional ethos
-
Renate Meyer (WU Vienna & University of Copenhagen) on phenomenological institutionalism
We hope you'll join us to explore new ways of theorizing institutions from the inside out.
