Dear colleagues,
we are excited to share a Call for Papers for a Special Issue titled “From within: Unpacking internal complexities, trade-offs, and tensions of firms in sustainability transitions.” This Special Issue shifts the focus inside organizations. Rather than treating firms as unified actors, we explore how internal complexities shape their engagement with sustainability transitions.
Bringing together insights from organization theory and transition studies, we invite contributions that examine how internal trade-offs, tensions, and competing priorities influence how firms perceive, respond to, and enact sustainability transitions — ultimately enabling or constraining their transformative potential.
The SI will be published in Environmental Innovation and Societal Transitions (EIST), a leading interdisciplinary journal at the forefront of sustainability transitions research, connecting insights from innovation studies, policy, and, increasingly, organizational scholarship.
We offer interested authors the possibility to submit a short abstract (150 words) to receive initial feedback on their idea and the fit to the Special Issue.
The abstract submission deadline is April 1st 2026 and the full paper submission deadline is September 15th 2026, with expected publication of the Special Issue in 2027.
