Designing and Organizing for a More Desirable, More-than-Human Future

    EGOS Colloquium 2026
    Thursday, July 9
    12:30–14:00 CEST
    Online

How can organizations imagine and create futures that are not only desirable for people, but also for the broader ecosystems on which they depend? As organizations increasingly confront climate change, biodiversity loss, and growing social inequalities, management scholars are rethinking how future-making can become more inclusive, democratic, and sustainable.

This EGOS 2026 Sub-Plenary brings together an outstanding interdisciplinary panel of scholars working at the intersection of organization studies, design, sustainability, and project studies:

    • Diane-Laure Arjaliès (Ivey Business School)
    • Iohanna Nicenboim (IT:U Linz & Delft University of Technology)
    • Danielle Wilde (Umeå University & University of Southern Denmark)
    • Jennifer Whyte (University of Sydney)

Together, we will explore questions such as:

    • What makes a future desirable and for whom?
    • How can organizations design and organize with both human and more-than-human stakeholders in mind?
    • How can future-making become more democratic by including underrepresented voices and the natural environment?
    • Which theories and methods can help scholars study and shape more equitable, sustainable, and regenerative futures?

We will offer new theoretical, methodological and managerial insights into how organizations can respond to today's grand challenges while broadening the scope of who-and what-is considered in shaping the future.

Whether you are interested in future making, sustainability, design, temporality, or engaged scholarship, we hope you will join the conversation.

    Organizers

    • Sabrina Bresciani (Politecnico di Milano)
