    Park Plaza.

    Symposium overview

Understanding how to organize for open social innovation in order to not only generate new ideas but also implement them is essential to unlock their potential for creating impact and addressing societal challenges. Despite the development of scholarship on open social innovation, research on the topic is still underdeveloped. We believe that reflecting on different forms of open innovation (from open science to innovation contests) and how they organize to engage multiple stakeholders to generate new ideas and create impact is essential and timely. There is a growing interest among scholars from different fields as well as from practitioners in understanding better the conditions to increase the success/effectiveness of open social innovation. This symposium aims at contributing to this understanding by shedding light on pioneering new studies on this topic that present empirical work that describes different forms of open social innovation and contexts in order to unpack practices for successful open social innovation.
