Journal of Management Call for Proposals

    Annual Review Issue

    Due June 2026

The Journal of Management (JOM) editorial team invites authors to submit proposals for the Annual Review Issues. Articles published in Review Issues are high-impact scholarly surveys that both (a) summarize and integrate the extant research in an area and, equally importantly, (b) identify key directions for future research in that area. JOM considers review proposals from all areas of management. The scope of a review should cover a significant area of literature likely to be of interest to scholars in a variety of areas. Typically, proposals to review new research areas in which there are few previously published articles are not strong candidates for review papers, unless a very compelling rationale can be offered for the need for such a review despite a smaller body of extant work in that area.

Note that proposals for standalone meta-analysis papers will not be considered. Rather, standalone meta-analyses should be submitted as full original research papers (at any time). This policy does not preclude including a meta-analysis to supplement a review paper, but that review paper must also qualitatively review and integrate the literature it is focused on to be considered for a review issue.

Authors can submit proposals between June 1, 2026 and June 30, 2026 by 11:59 pm EASTERN via the JOM online submission portal: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jom (select Review Issue as the submission type).

Please note proposals may NOT be submitted until June 1, 2026.

Proposals should be double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and include no more than seven pages of text and five pages of references, tables, and appendices. Proposals that exceed these limits will be rejected. If you have a full draft of your paper, you may note that in the proposal.

Submissions will be reviewed by the editorial team and evaluated with respect to the following criteria*:

Relevance. The proposed manuscript should thoroughly review a significant and important research area within the organizational sciences.

Impact. The proposed manuscript should have the potential for significant impact on management and organizational scholarship and practice.

Viability. The proposal should represent an achievable project within the required tight time constraints. More detail on the timeline is provided below.

Timeliness/Contribution. Reviews should be on topics for which no recent reviews exist, and the proposal should emphasize how the review will contribute to knowledge in that area.

Insight for Future Work. The proposal should convey important implications for future scholarly work.

Organization and Coherence. The proposal should follow a logical structure, read clearly, and thoroughly represent the available research.

Scope of Interest. Papers of broad interest to scholars in a variety of specialty areas are greatly preferred.

*Proposals that demonstrate the authors understand the area to be reviewed and have drafted the proposal based on an already completed literature search will be given strong preference.

Authors of successful proposals will be invited to submit a full review paper. Please understand that the complete manuscript, once submitted, will undergo full peer review. Of note, having one's proposal "accepted" does not guarantee publication as a review paper in the Journal. Each year multiple review papers are ultimately rejected despite being evaluated favorably as a proposal because the authors do not deliver on the promise of the proposal's potential.
