At the Frontiers of Organizational Network Research: Developing Ideas and Draft Papers. August 5, 10:30AM-1:30PM ET (session 11521)

The workshop aims to provide participants (in particular junior faculty and PhD students) with an understanding of how to publish organizational network studies in management journals. The study of networks within and between organizations is a growing field of research with its own unique opportunities and challenges. It is unusual in that it has theoretical relevance at the individual, team, organizational, and industry level; and can be integrated with a broad range of management theories. Therefore, it has broad applicability across the members of many AoM divisions and interest groups. The opportunity to apply an organizational network framework across a broad range of topics also provides challenges. For example, understanding what research questions are relevant for a broad management audience is not always obvious. Network analysis has seen new statistical methods that provide opportunities and challenges, such as how to convey these new models to a wider management audience.

This workshop sees the unique opportunity to bring together a number of leading academics from the LINKS Center for Social Network Analysis of the University of Kentucky, the University of Exeter Centre for Social Networks, and other leading universities, who have published in a wide range of top management journals. The format of the workshop includes a panel session and small roundtable discussions where individual papers from participants (submitted prior to the workshop) will be discussed.

    Discussants include:

    Cecile Emery, University of Exeter

    Alexandra Gerbasi, University of Exeter

    Daniel Halgin, University of Kentucky

Giuseppe Labianca, University of Massachusetts Amherst

    Songqi Liu, Georgia State University

    Ajay Mehra, University of Kentucky

Andrew Parker, Durham University Business School

    Eric Quintane, ESMT Berlin

    Stefano Tasselli, University of Exeter

Leroy White, Warwick Business School, U. of Warwick

    Le Zhou, Texas A&M University

Interested participants are asked to register and submit a draft paper/proposal to Stefano Tasselli, s.tasselli@exeter.ac.uk, prior to July 22, 2023 (two weeks before the in-person workshop). As we want to ensure a good amount of time to discuss each paper we will limit participation to a maximum of 45.

This workshop is scheduled for Saturday, August 5, 10:30AM -1:30PM ET at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, Whittier Room.
