In September 2025, we will again offer our PhD course on "Expertise and Emerging Technologies: A Working and Organizing Perspective", hosted by Aalborg University on its Copenhagen campus and online.
The course runs across several sessions combining a three-day in-person seminar with online sessions between September and November. The course examines how emerging technologies (such as AI, data infrastructures, and robots) interact with and reshape professional expertise and organizing practices. It is designed for students with an interest in work, technology, and organization, and we welcome participants from all fields, at all PhD stages, and with diverse interests in the topics.
The in-person module (Sept 22–24 in Copenhagen) combines lectures and collaborative exercises. The online sessions (Oct 30–31 and Nov 14) focus on peer feedback on essays for the course and will seek to advance deeper engagement with participants' own projects.
The course aim for a constructive spirit that helps participants advance their own work and thought, and will include lectures and guest lectures from Dr. Kasper Elmholdt, Dr. Mohammad H. Rezazade Mehrizi (organizers), Prof. Ruthanne Huising, Prof. Davide Nicolini, and Dr. Pedro Monteiro.
The course is open to PhD students from all disciplines. No formal prerequisites are required, but basic familiarity with qualitative research is recommended.
To apply for the course:
Submit a short motivation (300–500 words) explaining how your PhD relates to the topic of expertise and what you hope to gain.
