    Dear colleagues,
For our next Philosophy and Organization Theory study group session, we will explore Alfred Schutz's phenomenological account of meaning, intersubjectivity, and the structure of the social world in The Phenomenology of the Social World. Our discussion will focus on how Schutz builds a bridge between Husserlian phenomenology and Weberian interpretive sociology, offering a foundational framework for understanding social reality from within lived experience. This is a key text for organization theory.
We are delighted that Hari Tsoukas will join us as discussant for this session.
Readings from The Phenomenology of the Social World
    • Chapter 1 - The Statement of Our Problem: Max Weber's Basic Methodological Concepts
    • Chapter 2 - The Constitution of Meaningful Lived Experience
    • Chapter 3 - Foundations of a Theory of Intersubjective Understanding
As you read, we encourage you to note how Schutz's account of meaning-making and intersubjectivity might speak to organization-theoretical concerns such as interpretation, practical reasoning, legitimacy/authority, and the constitution of social order in everyday organizational life. Our goal is to use Schutz as a generative resource for thinking about organizational reality "from within" lived experience.
Please feel free to invite your colleagues and PhD students.

We look forward to the discussion.
