This workshop will consist of two parts. First, we will have a panel discussion with a group of leading scholars in the domain of artificial intelligence (AI) and technology strategy. This panel discussion will center around how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could shape senior managerial strategic decisions. These decisions can include which markets to enter or firms to acquire. We plan to discuss areas where AI can supplement complex managerial decisions by providing good predictions and where AI may completely substitute managers by offering predictions and decisions along rule-based lines. Applying AI to strategic managerial decisions is challenging as such decisions are made under much more uncertainty than regular decisions where AI Is used and there is little available data as such decisions, by their nature, are quite rare. The moderated discussion will cover what kinds of strategic decisions AI will be able to help with and which it will be of limited value, what senior managerial tasks would be complemented by AI and what would be substituted away and thinking long-term, will we simply hand over the firm to AI!
Second, pre-registered attendees will be divided into multiple break-out groups to discuss and develop ideas pertaining to different elements of AI such as how it can be leveraged in research, how it can be used to aid teaching of strategy and how AI could shape how firms are structured. At the end of this session, a designated participant will share their group’s ideas with the broader audience. The conference organizers will capture these ideas and share with the registered participants after SMS. The workshop will conclude with final observations by the workshop organizers.
