Symposium on The Disruptive and Performative Power of Rhetoric (Session 1871).
Tue, August 08 10:00 - 11.30 @Gloucester Room Park Plaza.
This Symposium aims to touch upon the different approaches opened by current scholarship on rhetoric, with particular emphasis on its performativity. We will reflect upon the various forms of rhetoric manifests: spoken and written language, but also in the absence of words (such as silences), as well as in images, gestures, and artifacts like monuments or sculptures. As such, rhetoric can transform meaning, even meaning that is taken for granted, foster radical change and radical actions that jeopardize or upend taken-for-granted concepts and institutions, and eventually facilitate theorization.
The event features an outstanding group of scholars: Dennis Jancsary (WU Vienna), Dennis Schoeneborn (CBS Copenhagen Business School), Candance Jones (University of Edinburgh), Piotr Makowski (Queen's University of Belfast), and it will be moderated by Cliff Oswick (Bayes Business School), Claudio Biscaro (JKU Linz), and myself.
We look forward to seeing you there!
