    Dear Colleagues

I'm excited to share the release of my new bookThe Interloper: Lessons from Resistance in the Field.

It's about why what resists is often real and what such resistance can teach us about the people who resist, and ourselves. The book has been a long time in the making: it weaves together stories of resistance in diverse settings that I have studied - including ones involving Nazi scientists and Disney union-busters - to help analyze what happens when a researcher enters your world and starts asking questions you would prefer not to answer.

When an interloper appears, communities often obstruct inquiries, hide evidence, forget their past, and even silence dissent. So how can we learn about a community when it resists so very strongly? The answer is that, sometimes, the resistance is itself the key. By creating obstacles, community members often disclose more than they mean to.

If this description piques your interest, you can order the book with a 30% discount code (P325) directly at Princeton University Press. Alternatively, it's also available at Amazon or in your favorite independent bookstore.

    Cheers,

    Michel
