    Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to invite applications for our upcoming virtual PDW:

Data Interpretation & Framing in Paradox Research

Station 1 of the Paradox PDW Series – A Shared Journey of Developing Paradox Research

    📅 June 26, 2026
     08:00–10:00 ET | 14:00–16:00 CEST
    💻 Virtual Workshop

This PDW focuses on one of the most challenging - and often least openly discussed - aspects of paradox research:

How do we make sense of complex empirical data and develop compelling paradox theorizing from it?

We are very happy to welcome the following panelists:

    • Wendy K. Smith (University of Delaware)
    • Harald Tuckermann (University of St. Gallen)
    • Simone Carmine (IESEG School of Management)

This PDW is designed as an interactive and developmental session, including:

    • A panel discussion in which the panelists will share their own approaches to working with empirical data and reflect collectively on data interpretation and theorizing processes
    • Three developmental paper discussions where selected presenters introduce their datasets or condensed extracts and receive collective feedback and reflections from panelists and participants
    • A concluding collaborative reflection on framing, theorizing, and moving projects forward

The research process itself is deeply paradoxical. As scholars, we constantly navigate tensions between complexity and simplicity, openness and structure, induction and deduction, novelty and continuity. Rather than treating these tensions as problems to eliminate, this PDW also aims to explore how they may become productive sources of theorizing and methodological creativity.

While the workshop is rooted in paradox scholarship, we warmly welcome scholars working with broader themes of tensions, complexity, process research, qualitative theorizing, and related methodological challenges across organizational research more generally.

    📣 CALL FOR ONE-PAGE APPLICATIONS

We will select three presenters to discuss their ongoing projects and empirical material with the panelists and participants.

Everyone interested is warmly welcome to participate in the workshop discussion.

    🗓 Application & Registration Deadline: June 12, 2026

Please find the registration link and poster with further information below.
