"What Comes After 2030? Thinking about the Future of the SDG Agenda: the contribution of the Private Sector"

As 2030 approaches, the global community stands at critical crossroads. With less than five years to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it is increasingly clear that the private sector holds a decisive role in accelerating progress and shaping what comes next. The question is no longer "if" businesses should lead, but "how" they can do so effectively and responsibly. Some other questions arise:
· What role can the private sector play in accelerating progress towards the SDGs?
· How can companies align business models with sustainable development priorities and become more competitive?
· How can the private sector be involved in the construction of a "new" or "renewed" Global Agenda, so they are not only contributors but also catalysts of systemic change?
To elucidate this discussion, the Centre for Responsible Business & Leadership at CATÓLICA-LISBON, in partnership with the UN Global Compact Network Portugal, is organizing the second session of this world-class webinar series: "What Comes After 2030? The Future of the SDG Agenda."
This webinar series marks the beginning of a broader effort to explore these issues in depth and foster critical dialogue about the future of the Sustainable Development Agenda. Each session features distinguished guest speakers who share their insights and engage with participants around key themes of the 2030 Agenda and what may come next.
We already organized the first edition in July, where we discussed what could be the future of the SDGs Agenda, bringing together experts from Academia, Civil Society, and the Private Sector.
This second edition will focus on the crucial role of the private sector in driving progress towards the SDGs and shaping the post-2030 sustainable development framework: one that is both meaningful for companies and society.
The session is scheduled for November 26, at 12:00 PM GMT+1, and will bring together business leaders and industry representatives to explore how companies can accelerate change and act as true catalysts of systemic transformation.
We are featuring the following speakers for this discussion:
· Esther Finidori - Chief Sustainability Officer at Schneider Electric
· Griet Cattaert - Regional Head Western Europe and North America at UN Global Compact
· Diane Holdorf - Executive Vice President of The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)
The third and last webinar will focus on "The future of the SDG Agenda: partnerships for the world's most vexing challenges". For this moment we aim to bring together Public, Private, Civil Sector and Academia.
This webinar series discussions and their main takeaways will be edited and presented in the format of a publication by the Center for Responsible Business and Leadership, at CATÓLICA-LISBON.
