Dear colleagues,
We warmly invite you to join us for an interactive PDW at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting 2026 in Philadelphia, where we tackle one of the most pressing questions facing managers today: What happens to managerial work when "learning algorithms" enter the room?
AI is no longer a tool managers simply use; it is becoming a co-actor that reshapes how they allocate tasks, coordinate teams, evaluate performance, and make decisions. As generative and agentic systems take on more of the manager's core functions, managers find themselves negotiating their authority with algorithms, navigating shifting role boundaries, and responding to employees' reactions to AI-mediated control. This is, at its heart, a profound human challenge.
Sponsored by the CTO, the PDW consists of two parts:
🔹 Part 1 - Expert Panel Presentations (40 min). Three distinguished scholars from CTO and OB share concise, integrative perspectives on manager–AI collaboration, augmented capabilities, shifting managerial roles, and the future of managerial work, followed by an open Q&A.
🔹 Part 2 - Interactive Scenario-Based Group Work (40 min) + Synthesis (10 min). In small groups, participants work through realistic managerial dilemmas. Groups then report back to the facilitators for a synthesis that surfaces shared themes, debates, and implications for research, teaching, and practice.
This PDW is relevant for management scholars and practitioners across all career stages with an interest in disruptive technologies, organizational behavior, and managerial work. Come brainstorm with us.
Participation:
For Part 1 (panel presentations), no registration or pre-approval is required - just come!
For Part 2 (interactive session), please kindly let us know in advance by filling out this form so that we can prepare intriguing scenarios of interest for you. If there are specific scenarios or topics you would like us to consider, please include them in the form.
We look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia! 🤖🧭
