    This symposium examines strategic interactions between business and public policy, with particular attention to new pathways and system-level effects extending beyond focal firms and target regulations. The four papers examine how temporary policy mandates can produce lasting changes in corporate governance beyond directly regulated firms; how common ownership influences corporate responses to democratic backsliding; how organizational structures and individual practitioners shape the ethics and societal consequences of corporate political activity; and how workplaces influence employees' democratic participation.

    We are honored to welcome Timothy Werner of the University of Texas at Austin as our distinguished discussant. His research examines how firms manage their institutional environments, with a particular focus on nonmarket strategy, private politics, and corporate governance.
