We are very excited to share that our panel symposium, "Empowering Positive Social Change for Marginalized Groups: Emotions, Organizations, and Institutions," will be part of this year's Academy of Management Annual Meeting:

    📅 Date: Tuesday, August 4, 2026
    Time: 8:00–9:30 AM ET (GMT-4/UTC-4)
    📍 Location: Sheraton, Salon 10

Today's societies are facing profound and overlapping social challenges, such as mass displacement, homelessness, violence, geopolitical and cultural conflicts, and accelerating climate change. These crises do not affect everyone equally. They often intensify the vulnerability of marginalized groups and raise urgent questions about how positive social change may be constrained, imagined, enabled, organized, and sustained.

Our symposium starts from that urgency. What happens when we place marginalized groups themselves at the center of analysis?

We are delighted to bring together scholars who approach this question from different perspectives. We aim to stimulate open discussion about how marginalized groups engage with positive social change, how organizations and institutions may both enable and constrain that process, and how emotions shape the possibilities and limits of social change.

Many thanks to my wonderful co-organizers, Chuqiao Zhou and Shuo Yuan, and to our fantastic panelists and discussant:

Panelists: John Amis, Emily Block, Kisha Lashley, and Lu (Nick) Wang
    Discussant: Mia Raynard

We hope this session will open a rich and timely conversation for scholars interested in positive social change.

If you have questions for our panelists and discussant, please feel free to add them using this link and we will try to cover them during the session.

Please join us if you are attending AOM. We would be very happy to see you there and continue the conversation!
