08-14-2019 03:28

The UON Vice-Chancellor's Higher Degree by Research Training Scholarships are a prestigious award to support selected applicants, who have demonstrated a proven capacity for research, academic merit and potential to develop the requisite skills to make an ongoing impact in their academic careers.

These scholarships are a new category of scholarship that include the opportunity for an academic training experience beyond the research experience. The Academic Career Preparation (ACP) pathway associated with this scholarship scheme enables candidates to develop a portfolio of academic experiences, including core competencies in university teaching.

To be eligible for these scholarships, prospective applicants must be nominated by a UON academic.
Details are available at https://www.newcastle.edu.au/research-and-innovation/graduate-research/future-students/scholarships/vcs-hdr-scholarships

I am keen to nominate an outstanding HDR candidate who can work with me to answer any one of the following types of research questions:

  1. whether safe systems of work (SSW), psychological contracts, safety climate, safety culture and and safety management systems hinder or enhance organisational safety management
  2. how SSW are prescribed and practiced, the nature of gaps between prescription and practice of SSW, and how these gaps are narrowed to achieve safe operations as part of normal, day-to-day work, and
  3. the extent to which SSW and psychological contracts can be integrated with normal accidents, high-reliability and resilience engineering theories to drive improvements in organisational safety management.
I will require a completed Expression of interest by 25 August 2019, which needs to be submitted by the prospective HDR candidate by no later than 1st September 2019
