Co-Organizers: Elena Doldor, (Queen Mary University of London), Patricia Gabaldon (IE University), Corinne Post (Villanova University), Steve Sauerwald (University of Houston), Cathrine Seierstad (University of South-Eastern Norway)
o Do you research diversity on boards or in TMTs?
o Are you looking for a value-adding informal review, expert feedback, or strategic advice on a manuscript you are preparing for publication?
>>> If you answered yes to these questions, then this workshop is for you!
The Board and TMT Diversity: A Paper Development Workshop is designed for researchers in the fields of diversity, corporate governance, and upper echelons (boards and TMT). Highly experienced scholars, many with editorial experience, will mentor and provide feedback to more junior scholars on papers close to journal submission. Consideration will be given to a wide range of topics, including but not limited to studies that: (1) consider wider outcomes of board / TMT diversity beyond firm financial performance, such as sustainability, workplace diversity and inclusion, employee well-being, innovation and creativity, and improved stakeholder relations; (2) develop novel explanations for how and when board and TMT diversity affects firm outcomes; (3) consider novel conceptualizations of board and TMT diversity; (4) provide international comparisons or new methodological approaches. Qualitative, quantitative, conceptual, and empirical manuscripts are welcome.
The PDW will be held in person only during this year's AOM conference in Philadelphia (USA). Participants are asked to submit a manuscript that is close to submission to a refereed journal (not under review). The paper should follow standard AOM guidelines (one single document, including all text, figures, tables, graphs, appendices, and references, NOT exceeding 40 pages in total length). Additionally, we request a one-page extended abstract and a list of key questions for which authors request feedback (making the overall submission 41 pages).
Standing by to help you with your paper are the following experienced scholars: Diana Bilimoria (Case Western Reserve University), Steven Boivie (Texas A&M University), Kris Byron (Georgia State University), Cynthia Clark (Bentley University), Sydney Finkelstein (Dartmouth College), Terrance Fitzsimmons (University of Queensland), Seung-Hwan Jeong (University of Georgia), Livia Markoczy (University of Illinois at Chicago), Gerry McNamara (Michigan State University), Frances Milliken (New York University), Orlando Richard (University of Massachusetts, Amherst), Winfried Ruigrok (University of St. Gallen), Siri Terjesen (Florida Atlantic University), Tiffany Trzebiatowski (Colorado State University) and James Westphal (University of Michigan).
You're On Board, Now What's Next?
1. Submit your manuscript to Cathrine Seierstad (Cathrine.Seierstad@usn.no); submission opens on May 25 and closes June 1, 2026. In addition to the standard 40-page paper, please add one extra page including the following information:
o An extended abstract
o A list of key questions authors request feedback on
o The authors' career tenure (e.g., PhD student or number of years post-PhD)
o A confirmation that at least one of the author(s) commits to attending AOM in person (feedback will only be offered in person)
2. Decisions will be communicated by June 15. Space is limited, and acceptance is competitive, so preference will be given to papers close to submission to a refereed journal and to junior scholars. You will also be notified of your allocated mentor.
3. The PDW will be held in person only during the AOM conference, in a roundtable format, with feedback provided orally. Participants will be allocated to tables with their assigned mentors. Other participants can also register and listen in on the sessions. The PDW organizers will provide a short welcome and debrief comments.
