The Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems at Louisiana State University's E. J. Ourso College of Business invites applications to its Ph.D. Program in Entrepreneurship.

The program prepares students to conduct rigorous, theory-driven research at the intersection of entrepreneurship, strategy, and information systems. It is well-suited for students interested in entrepreneurial processes in technology-intensive markets, innovation ecosystems, platforms, and institutional environments. While entrepreneurship is the primary focus, students develop secondary training in strategy, organization theory, or information systems, depending on their research interests.

Doctoral students work closely with faculty mentors to develop expertise in theory development, research design, and methods, and are encouraged to collaborate on research projects and pursue early coauthorship in leading journals in entrepreneurship, strategy, and management. Our scholarly identity centers on producing insights that matter within and beyond the scientific community, so students learn to design research suitable for publication in premier academic journals, with the potential for translation into practitioner outlets-thereby increasing the likelihood that their work influences both scholarly discourse and entrepreneurial action.

Senior faculty include Gideon Markman and Ted Waldron, whose work focuses on entrepreneurship, innovation, and organizational theory, with a sustained commitment to theory-driven research that engages real-world problems. Their work has appeared in academic journals such as Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Strategic Management Journal, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and Journal of Management, as well as professional outlets like Harvard Business Review and Entrepreneur & Innovation Exchange. The program welcomes conceptual, qualitative, and quantitative research approaches.

The Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship is a full-time, four-year residential program, which includes a graduate assistant position, tuition remission, a competitive stipend, health insurance, and support for conference participation (e.g., Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society, Babson).

Graduates are prepared for tenure-track positions in entrepreneurship, strategy, and management departments at research-oriented universities.
